100 Faces
by Clemens Habicht
4 Apr – 3 May, 2014

Jacky Winter is pleased to present 100 FACES,a solo exhibition of new work by Clemens Habicht. Habicht set himself the illustrative task of finding 100 faces in 100 original black and white photographs gleaned from flea markets in Vietnam and France. Each face emerges from a single photo already depicting people with every part of the original image being used in the final construction.
Habicht states, “Drawing these faces into existence is willing myself to look beyond what is already there and seeing the image anew. The construction becomes a way to make this revelation apparent to another, and cutting into something already so fascinating and unique is a serious and irreversible mark upon the original. It reveals the process to a viewer and to me is a leap of faith that it’s going to work.”
100 FACES follows from Clemens’ first solo exhibition at Lamington Drive, 100 KITES, in which birds were collaged onto hand made identical kites, framing the works and giving each bird the real potential of flight.
Clemens Habicht is an illustrator, graphic designer and film maker based in Paris. He has directed music videos for the likes of Bloc Party, Tame Impala and the Presets and his illustrations have been featured in the Bulletin, Creative Review and Sturgeon Magazine, the Artbank publication. He runs Galerie Allen in Paris with Joseph Allen Shea and Mel O’Callaghan and produces art catalogues for clients including the Sydney Biennale and the Secession Museum Vienna.
