Gratitude Frequency
by Nina Elliott
5 Aug – 10 Sep, 2022

Jacky Winter is pleased to present Gratitude Frequency – new works by Nina Elliott.
I definitely find I worship the everyday. Try to honour the little moments I am bestowed. Mostly they’re private? Or witnessed solo? But also like, beach and pool memories, the reddy pink of your eyelids when you close them in the sun... Internal.
Motivated to express the everyday, Nina replicates what is domestic. Documentation is a form of devotion, an ode to the spaces we occupy both mentally and physically. A way of reconciling our place in the world around us, through compulsive photography, screen shots, writing and drawing.
Gratitude Frequency celebrates the detail of the daily and the poetry in passing moments. A focus on materiality – facades, textures and structures explored simply in pencil on paper. A gaze reduced and re-formed. Negative space is an integral asset in the individual pieces, a visual exhale. These new works expose patterns, objects and places observed and distilled for contemplation.
Nina Elliott is a Naarm based artist. Observations, seemingly cropped, zoomed and re-presented fuel Nina’s practice. Purposeful compositions that frequently reference elements of architecture. Her work is marked by the use of line and subdued palette. Her methodology of documenting and arranging underpins each of the works, both through photography and constructed compositions. Ultimately her output is a reflection of her approach: methodical and purposeful.
