Shameless
by Ellen Porteus
8 Jun – 1 Jul, 2017

Jacky Winter is pleased to present Shameless, the debut solo exhibition of Melbourne-based illustrator Ellen Porteus.
This will be our inaugural opening and exhibition at our new Collingwood location on Budd Street featuring a completely redesigned gallery and office space designed by Nest Architects.
A tongue-in-cheek collection of mixed media work, Shameless explores the uncomfortable awareness of Ellen’s own self-obsession and how this has shaped a troubled relationship with her artistic fears. This playful collection both projects and celebrates the honest realisations and irrational insecurities that artists usually cloak within their perfectly crafted and marketable self-image.
Spanning illustration, animation, and installation, this collection will also see Porteus experimenting with new mediums and materials including neon, silk and perspex.
With an aesthetic described as ‘Playful but ballsy’, Ellen Porteus is a graphic-designer-turned-freelance-illustrator and gif artist, who brings her unique vision to the world of animated art. Her meticulously patterned vector work boasts eccentric colour palettes - often wrapped up in the coordinated chaos of interwoven animated loops.
Based in Melbourne, Ellen’s work has been in consistent rotation through some of the most high-profile commercial clients both domestically and abroad, including the Sydney Opera House, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Fast Company, The New York Times, The Gates Foundation, TED, Monocle, and more. Ellen’s group exhibitions include Golden, Workshop Fitzroy (2016), A Billion Frames Per Second, Lamington Drive (2016), Double Bump, No Vacancy Gallery (2016), Look Hear, The Edwards (2016) as well as The Lock-Up (2015) and finally, Yen Young Female Art Awards, Gaffa Gallery (2015).
